Online Archeology Field School
Register for Archaeology with the Castle Online: Summer 2021
Immerse yourself in history and archeological discovery this summer in an online term with the Bader International Study Centre.
The DRAGEN Lab is offering five $900 scholarships for registered University of Waterloo students, and an additional five $900 scholarships for registered Queen’s university students.
The online field school takes place from 10 May – 17 June 2021. Over these six weeks you will take CLST 408 (6.0 credits at Queen’s / 1.0 credits at the University of Waterloo), Archeology Fieldwork Practicum. Third- and fourth-year students also have the opportunity to take RESEARCH 594, an independent study course that allows you to perform supervised research. That second course will count as 3.0 credits at Queen’s and 0.5 at Waterloo.
This online Archaeology Field School provides a unique experiential learning opportunity. The Bader International Study Center offers the perfect environment to study archeology virtually. During the six-week program, you will have the opportunity to apply your studies to the first-ever excavation of Herstmonceux Castle’s Gamekeeper Lodge! Expand your knowledge on guided virtual excursions to places like the Museum of London and British Museum, allowing you to broaden your perspective by experiencing key British heritage institutions.
For Summer 2021, students registered in the Field School will take part in a livestream of a new excavation at the site of the Castle’s Gamekeeper Lodge, circa 1440, will enjoy the BISC advantages of small class sizes and personalized learning online, and will analyze 3-D printed replicas of finds from the dig to put your archeological training into action.
